Krasnoyarsk Regional Energy Company (KrasECo) has implemented a secure and manageable workstation infrastructure based on Kaspersky Thin Client
Background
Thin clients have already been used at KrasECo to create workstations for line personnel. The company’s employees use them to perform typical day-today tasks such as calculating the cost of services based on meter readings received from consumers, billing, and more.
When selecting a solution for creating workstations, several requirements were taken into account.
Since the workstations are located in different locations, the solution had to provide a flexible and convenient centralized management system.
Because some APMs were migrating to homegrown operating systems, the thin clients had to be able to connect to different versions of Linux and Windows.
Solution
A special feature of the solution is Cyber Immunity. This is the “innate” security of an IT system, the ability to withstand cyberattacks without the need for additional security tools.
Kaspersky offered its comprehensive Kaspersky Thin Client solution for building a managed and functional thin client infrastructure based on the KasperskyOS microkernel operating system.
Kaspersky Thin Client provides various types of connections to a wide range of operating systems on a remote server. It also supports the necessary peripherals: local USB printers and scanners, USB storage devices and security tokens.
About the company
Krasnoyarsk Regional Energy Company (KrasECo) was established in 2004. It is one of the largest companies in the region in the field of power transmission, thermal power generation, water supply, wastewater disposal, as well as design and construction of power grid facilities for public utilities. It operates in 24 municipalities of Krasnoyarsk Krai and covers more than 200 localities.
Results
Following a pilot project, several KrasECo branches were equipped with workstations based on Kaspersky Thin Client. In the future, the company’s IT department plans to scale this solution.
Kaspersky Thin Client attracted the customer with its competitive pricing.
It was also important that KrasECo’s infrastructure was already protected by Kaspersky products with a single centralized management system. The Kaspersky Security Center console, already familiar to the IT department’s employees, allowed them to quickly master effective management of the entire fleet of devices. In particular, the customer emphasized the ease of administration and application of security rules and policies depending on the location of the thin client and the role of the employee working on it.
We highly appreciate the economic prospects of deploying thin clients with Kaspersky’s operating system. The product is constantly evolving and our requirements and wishes are quickly taken into account. This serves as a good basis for long-term cooperation and scaling of the solution in the future.
